New Year, New Start & Yaro Interviewed Me :)

January 7, 2009 Posted under: Personal by Caroline Middlebrook

Well Happy New Year to you all, hopefully by now you are fully settled into 2009.

I have been somewhat slack in getting back to work this year but I do have a valid excuse – a new home at last! Throughout all of 2008 I didn’t have my own place and I lived with friends and family and generally felt very unsettled. I finally got the keys to my own place a couple of days before Christmas and officially moved in on the 2nd Jan. Since then I have been busy cleaning, decorating, shopping, assembling furniture and all that stuff that goes with making a house a home so that’s my excuse!

However my broadband is now connected (10Mb niiiiiice!) and my office is setup so I have no more excuses now so it’s back to work (though I still have a ton of decorating to do!) As you may recall, I ended 2008 by closing off all my projects, finishing up products such as the Bloggers Bible, reducing my social media activities and cutting back on the blogs I read in order to clear my schedule for my new software project which I am really excited about.

As I won’t be actively working on income-generating projects for the next few months (other than promoting the Bloggers Bible) I will be experimenting with some monetisation methods for this blog which I plan to begin implementing next week. Other than that I plan to write some posts about some topics that I’ve been planning to write about for a while but I may cut my posting frequency down a little bit. It’s tempting to think up posts just to hit a certain posting schedule and this is something that many bloggers so but in my experience I think it is best to only post when there is something pressing to post about. If you post filler content (hmm this post is a bit like that!) then you are really just wasting the time of your blog readers!

So I won’t keep you much longer… Any of you who have read my blog for any length of time will know that I am a big fan of Yaro Starak and his products. This morning I was delighted to be interviewed by him via Skype and he will be posting this interview on his blog, the Entrepreneur’s Journey in the next day or two. Also, he will be promoting the Bloggers Bible and will be offering an exclusive discount. It’s not as high as the launch discount that was offered when first released but it’s still very significant so keep an eye out on his blog for that!

Ok back to my decorating…

  • Hi Caroline, just listened to your interview with Yaro. Great interview! Congratulations on getting your new home, which is something I talk about in my blog as well.
I love your blog and I’ve subscribed. I also have signed up for the free lessons of the Bible, but I think I might end up buying it. I am interested in the affiliate program as well, as I have another blog, just born, that teaches “real” beginners how to use the computer and the internet.
All the best! You’re right up my alley!!

  • Congratulations on your new home, Caroline. And kudos for continuing to keep moving ahead with your business. It’s easy to give up or slack off, but I can see that you have too many great ideas bubbling up to let that happen.

For your readers: I subscribed to the Blogger’s Bible email course a while ago, and it’s just terrific. There’s so much fluff and hype out there, and this is just good old red meat.

I recommend that you either sign up or buy the book now from Caroline if you want the information right away. Nothing in it for me. Just an appreciation.

  • Just found this site from Yaro Starak’s newsletter, and I just finished listening to the interview. I was scared too about commenting on other blogs, and many of the things you mentioned in that interview I’m going through now. It makes it a lot easier knowing people have been there before. Thank You.

    Congrats Caroline,

under the interview You didn’t say You succeded with Niche Sites, but You have succeded to monetize from this blog.

Why didn’t You created the traffic in the same way for Your niche sites? It’s mostly the same process, driving traffic to a site or a blog … both need traffic to “tap money” from them …

And, later, both the nichesites and the blog will get search engine traffic

Congraluations and Happy New Year Caroline :) You’re sooo lucky that Yaro interviewed you :P

  • @Broderick, I know what you mean, it can be a little intimidating to start commenting on blogs – especially if they are quite active with commenters already. By it’s like anything new, once you’ve done it a few times you wonder what all the fuss was about!

@Patrik, the niche sites failed mainly for one reason – lack of traffic which I attribute to failure to rank in the serps for the chosen keywords. It’s much easier to rank with this blog as it has higher PR and much more authority. I have put a tremendous amount of effort into driving traffic to this blog – hundreds and maybe even thousands of hours and that is not something I was prepared to do for the niche sites. They were completely different – designed to be small 10 page sites that could simply be left to mature on their own with no maintenance. A totally different beast to this blog, you simply cannot compare the two.

I found your site through Yaro’s podcast. I found your interview very inspiring and it is given me a couple of ideas for new projects.

I have an ebook that I have been working on for over a year and I have never gotten around to putting the final touches on it. After listening to your podcast, I am going to try and get it finished over the next couple of days.

I also plan on giving it away as a free ebook with some affiliate links in it.

Loved the interview. You are genuine. Tried to subscribe several times, all to no avail. ;(

  • I found out about you from Yaro. Interesting stuff you got going. It’s surprising that lots of people said they got started from reading your stuff. Hmmm, I will surely be visiting your blog more often. Keep it going, Caroline.

  • Cool. :) Must be great to have your own place, and I do like the idea of having a home office all set up. The hardware I would buy… :)

Great Interview Caroline! You have such a great attitude!

Question – you mentioned that originally you read many blogs and now you only follow a handful. I’m curious, what are some of your favorite blogs now?

    Thank You!

  • Rick imby says:

It is about time you quit being such a slacker.

I think the idea of living with friends is great. Sharing a place gives you an insight into friends that you can not get in any other way. You must keep the positives in mind though….

Looking forward to seeing your new project.

  • @Rick, ugh I could never live with any of my friends lol! It was bad enough living with family for 8 months!

  • Alan Parekh says:

Just listened to the interview. Very interesting road, and eerily similar to mine… I also signed up for the Bible, even though I have been building blogs for years I am sure there are things that I can learn!

  • Megan says:

Hey Caroline! Congratulations on your new place – I know how much this means to you! (hoping it has some nice surrounding areas, where you can go and contemplate life still) :-)

And congrats on the interview – as everyone here is saying! The pressure is on, as savings reduce – mine too! but you are way ahead of me and I am rethinking my online goals (and getting rid of all that ‘filler content’ too!), as my health is now improving – life is wonderful when health improves – mindset, everything! WOWOW – and I always remember your support last year, friendship :)

Hope to get back in contact again and love to know how your new lifestyle/home proceeds – time for yourself/space – will be great :-)

    Catch up soon,
    Meg

(I have lots to do around the house too, and its hard to find the balance – should I be on the computer, or the house! Need that routine! – hehe)

  • Well a new year and a new home, it seems like a great start to the year, Although I wish the economy would pick up, so we could dig ourselves out of this hole. I am also a fan of Yaro Starak, and I am sure many others reading this post are too. Its great that you got to do an interview with him!
