The Software Project

Posted under: Making Money Online by Caroline Middlebrook

In this project I intend to develop a subscription-based website with custom PHP software that offers various tools to the members. The software will be written in PHP. I’ll also be using specialist member management software to manage the users of the site.

To keep these posts on-topic, I won’t be discussing any actual software or coding issues but will discuss, installation issues, member management, payment processing and of course the most important topic – how the site will be marketed.

Project Plan

  • Develop a rough feature plan for initial release
  • Learn the PHP language (ongoing!)
  • Setup local development environment on my PC
  • Experiment with Joomla on test site
  • Experiment with Drupal on test site
  • Try out some PHP Frameworks
  • Build a basic site using Zend and a HTML/CSS template
  • Try out aMember trial software
  • Protect specific areas of website with aMember
  • Build first free tool – social bookmarker
  • Integrate custom graphics into site
  • Develop a newsletter of some sort to build a list of prospects
  • Launch Release #0 (FREE)
  • Develop training resources for Release #0
  • Create first paid tool
  • much more to come…
