StumbleUpon Course - Curriculum Revealed

March 17, 2008 Posted under: social media by Caroline Middlebrook

stumble rush project

I’ve developed a home study course on the usage of StumbleUpon to drive traffic to your website. This project is the account of my progress in developing and marketing that course. The course is now LIVE, is called Stumble Rush and you can enroll right now at http://www.stumblerush.com/.

Announcing the Course Curriculum

Since starting on my StumbleUpon course I have been hard at work fleshing out the outline of the course. I quickly realised that I had too much content to give the whole thing away for free so I have decided to change the business model and split the content into two halves - a basic half that will be free and an advanced half that will cost a few dollars.

The Basic Course (Free)

  1. Introduction to StumbleUpon
  2. Creating Content That Gets Stumbled
  3. Getting More Thumbs Up Votes
  4. The Mechanics and Ethics of StumbleUpon Submission
  5. Pimp My (StumbleUpon) Profile!
  6. The Basics of Networking on StumbleUpon
  7. Good Etiquette & How to Handle Abuse
  8. Traffic Boosting Tip #1
  9. Traffic Boosting Tip #2
  10. Trouble Shooting - Avoiding and Correcting Mistakes

The Advanced Course (Paid)

  1. ‘Power’ Stumbling - The What, Why & How
  2. Optimising Your Submissions for Maximum Results
  3. The Proper Way to Use Categories & Tags
  4. How to Build a Massive, Loyal Fan Base on StumbleUpon
  5. Using StumbleUpon to Build Backlinks to Your Site
  6. Using Images to Tap Into a Little Known Source of Traffic
  7. Using Web 2.0 to Virally Increase Your StumbleUpon Exposure
  8. Power Tools for Getting the Edge in StumbleUpon
  9. Another 2 Advanced Stumble Tricks
  10. Monetising StumbleUpon Traffic

What’s Next in the Project?

I’ve spent a long time researching the content so far and I am 99% certain that the curriculum I’ve outlined above is final so the big job I have to do now is actually start writing the content!

However, there are also other jobs I can do. Now that I know exactly what the course will entail I could start work on the landing page copy. This is going to be a pretty simple affair - pretty much just writing out the curriculum as I have done above. It’s not going to be one of those long-form sales letters that I despise!

Before I start on that though I’d really like to think more about a name for the course. I asked for feedback on Saturday and I’ve had some great response and there are quite a few names in the comments that I like but I’ll keep them under my hat for now. Keep ‘em coming…

Win a Free Copy of the Course

I don’t know why I didn’t think about this before… If I use a user-submitted name for my course then I’ll give that user a free copy of it. I suppose this would be a good time to mention the names that I had originally thought of myself. They are:

  • Stumble Traffic Explosion (bit long)
  • Stumble Explosion (better)
  • Stumble Marketing (yuk!)
  • Stumble Rumble (cute but somewhat meaningless!)

As you can see my preference is towards a short two-word name and I like having ‘Stumble’ in the name.

UPDATE: I have now chosen a name and registered the domain, thanks for your entries! (Announcement to be made on March 20th’s post)

Hi Caroline,
This is a great idea, I can’t wait to see the final product. Stumble is a bit complicated especially when you’re first strating out. One of the mistakes I continue to make is to target too many social sites and in the end I don’t really know which one works best or how to properly work with any of them, so this should be a good lesson.

Thanks!

How about “Stumbling On Crack”? based on the infamous niche marketing on crack and offline gold on crack…very overused and dont know why its so preferred but I know Caroline will use a more attractive and sane sounding course title ;-)

Oh dear, a little behind the times and off topic but couldn’t find the appropriate place to express! I’ve only just noticed how nice the ‘niche sites using wordpress’ e book is. A spiffing and very pro cover! Shucks…I can’t keep up!

My humble vote so far is for Scotts ‘Bare Naked Stumbling’, although not 2 words it catches the eye with a great explanatory counter punch.

I’m in the process of learning the ins and outs of SU. It sends me the most traffic besides Google and a few key links. I want to be able to harness this, so I look forward to reading your course.

Stumble Basics ?

Hi, looking forward to this coming out soon.

I have a site full of internet marketing videos and would like to know know if you’re going to make any videos with paid version?

If not, let me know if you’d like some videos made for you, perhaps in exchange for letting my paid members get the course available via the password-protected member’s area of my site.

When will this be made available as a paid item?

Also, here are some videos I did for all to see

@Daniel, yes I do plan to do some videos, hopefully with both the basic and the advanced material. I haven’t tried making video yet so the free course can be my tester for that :)

This won’t be available until the whole thing is finished. I would hate to give a date as I can’t promise anything but I’m hoping it will be ready some time towards the end of April.

You got my “naming juices” going before I saw at the bottom that you had it worked out. But hey, I’ll use up some valuable electrons here:

“Stumblin’”
“Stumbin’ On”
“Learnin’ How to Stumble”
“You Got to Stumble Before You Walk”

and of course:

“Stumblin’ Stumblin”

I’m brand new to your site, subscribed to it in my NetNewsWire. I was looking for a simple eBook on Stumble Upon and Google led me to your review of Matt’s eBook.

Sorry guys the naming competition is now closed - the name has been chosen and the domain is registered. The winner will be announced in tonights post. Allison Reynold’s entry was the last to be counted.
