Stats (Without the Analysis) for May 2008

June 1, 2008 Posted under: Making Money Online by Caroline Middlebrook

The month of May has been a total write-off work wise so any results that I present here are simply continuation of previous work. I’m posting my monthly stats for completeness but I’m going to leave out the commentary this month because I didn’t actually *do* anything to affect the results that I present here.

Income

Total income earned during May 2008: $1241.84

Well I wasn’t expecting much this month but it sure is nice to see the income continue to trickle in from work that I did several months ago. This is truly a residual income.

Newsletter Subscribers

One thing I have just noticed is that Aweber tracks both the total number of people subscribed to your lists, and also those who have unsubscribed which of course are people no longer reading. Last month I reported having 113 subscribers and I honestly don’t know which number I used. This month the total of subscribed subscribers is 178.

newsletter subs

RSS Subscribers

Last month ended on 2,269 and this month ended on 2,317 however, that number takes into account the Aweber count of newsletter subscribers so my subscribers dropped this month, which is not surprising. Thanks to the rest of you who have stuck around during this dry spell!

Traffic Stats

traffic overview

traffic details

traffic sources

When there are no new posts there is very little referral traffic which is reflected this month. Search engine traffic accounts for over 38% of my traffic this month - that’s one reason to build organic traffic as it relies purely on your existing material and doesn’t require you to keep writing new stuff.

Looking Ahead to June

I stated in my last post that I would be taking some time off and I have done - lots of it. I have started working again now and I completed another part of Traffic Rush yesterday but I am working on a very much part-time basis and will probably continue to do so for the next month or two.

It’s hard to say what June holds as far as the blog goes because I’m really just taking things day by day for a while so I am not planning my posts like I used to. However this blog is an important part of my work and I haven’t enjoyed doing my stats today and seeing all my numbers drop. I don’t want to waste the hard work that I have already invested into it so I am motivated to get back into the swing of things, but in a natural way without forcing it.

For those of you interested, the guest post I wrote for Steven Aitchison has been published. It’s called Getting Help When You Are In Despair.

Congratulations on your income!

I know the first $ are the hardest for sure. Once you get going there is no stopping you!

BTW, I looked through your “Build Niche Sites with WordPress” ebook and I must say well done. It’s really quite good!

I was wondering if I could have your permission to send it to my email list. (I didn’t see any copyright statement in the ebook but perhaps I just missed it.)

Please email me at nickstraffictricks@gmail.com

Thanks!

Hi Caroline,

A few other bloggers I know are slowing down with their posting recently, including myself. Must something in the air..

You earnings are a great example of passive income. I am surprised to see that Bluehost is doing so well, since It’s been a while since your launching of the eBook.

Cheers,
Alex

I think it’s great that you still get earnings from work that you’ve done in the past.

Hi Caroline, great to hear that you’re starting back - I only just discovered your blog a few weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to receiving some new posts.

Are your bluehost earnings entirely through the banner ad at the top of your page?

Despite the serious problems you have faced recently, you are still going very well Caroline. Congratulations!

@Nick, yes please feel free to distribute it far and wide :-)

@Web design, no it’s a mixture of sales from the banner and from an ebook I wrote a few months ago.

I admit to unsubscribing from your blog. I did this before the relationship break up.

The post that did it for my was the SEO post about pronunciations of your name. It made me feel like I was part of an experiment, rather than a community.

There were just a few things that made me feel uneasy - and this was before I read Blogger Unleashed. There were a number of affiliate links in products you either really disliked or hadn’t used. This made me feel like you were putting money ahead of us readers.

I understand your in Blogger Mastermind and consider Yaro a mentor? With his blog, and emails, the reviews are blatently honest and comprehensive in who might enjoy them. I feel like I’m learning, even if being knowingly sold to.

I emphasized the feelings behind my motivations in this comment because I am managing an anxiety disorder - which I’m sure you can sympathize with. How a blog makes me feel is an important factor in whether or not it stays on my RSS feed. Other readers are probably more ruthless than I.

Having said that, I do still check here weekly. When trying to explain Niche Sites or even setting up wordpress pages I link to your e-book. I will be watching your progress from the viewpoint of someone looking to emulate your success.

I recall you experimenting with squidoo a while back - perhaps you could start a lens about whats helped you through this time? Taking baby steps to get back into the game?

Do take care of your mental health. I’m sure you have a tonne of support but if you ever want to chat with someone whose been where you are now and is on the road to recovery, I’m sure my email is linked to this comment somehow.

Thanks again for providing the information regarding the income you are getting (and the sources of income). This is a great Blog!

I was wondering about the Bluehost sales also. Those affiliate links inside ebooks do wonders. I still make random $100 sales from an ebook I wrote almost 5 years ago.

Hey Caroline, Bluehost seems like a good affilliate for you, I’m wondering what sort of conversion rate you see on average?

Nathans last blog post..Knewsroom - Fame and Fortune

@Nathan, unfortunately I have no idea of the conversion rate because the majority of the affiliate sales came from my ebook and I never implemented any download tracking so I don’t know how many copies of the book are out there.

Stats & Analysis For June 2008 - $808 Earned | Caroline Middlebrook

[...] May was a bad month for me on a personal level but thankfully June has been much better and I am now back to work as I would like. Stumble Rush is almost finished and I’m getting really excited now and hope to release very shortly! Due to the emphasis on developing content for that I haven’t done anything to generate any other income so once again any income reported here is from work done many months ago, gotta love that!
