R.I.P. Treacle (My Cat)
On Saturday morning I had the unfortunate task of having my cat Treacle put down. She had cancer and it had spread to her lungs and was causing lots of problems. I first found the lump a few months ago and took her to the vet but at the time they said that it was harmless. They were wrong.
Last week she went completely off her food and started vomiting a lot. She was taken to the vet on Thursday and she was very weak and had difficulty breathing. They discovered that she was also bleeding a lot. She was kept in, put on a drip and given a blood test. The test revealed that she had a nasty infection but they were not yet sure why she couldn’t breathe and was so weak.
So the next day she was given an x-ray which revealed that she did in fact have cancer which had spread severely throughout her lungs. All of her problems were due to this and they told me that there would be nothing they could do other than make her more comfortable.
At the age of 15 I felt it was kindest to have her put down. It was horrible. I’ve had cats all my life so some have died and some have also gone missing but this is the first time I was actually there when it happened. I’m trying not to be too upset about it though as she had a long life, I was at home with her for about half of it and I have hundreds of photos to remember her by. Here are a few of them:

Summer 2005, In our garden

2006, The after-effects of a cat-nip toy! That’s Poppy in the background.

2007, Basking in the sunlight streaming into the hallway

This was taken just a few days before she died :(

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I volunteer with guide dogs and we recently lost a young puppy (1 year old) to nasal cancer. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
