Revision 1.3 of my WordPress Ebook Has Been Released

ebook project

Today I have released another update to my ebook How to Develop Money Making Niche Sites With Wordpress. This time around I have labeled the revision 1.3, and have included links to the download page in the footer of the book to encourage readers to check for an update. If you have downloaded an older copy that does not have revision numbers then please get the latest version.

You may also notice that nice little graphic in the upper right portion of my header. This is one of the reasons I desperately wanted a new blog theme – I knew that I would want to use those sections to promote my products and now I finally have my own product to promote :)

The latest version of the ebook expands on the money making aspect of developing these niche sites. One thing I got wrong with the early versions of the book was not clearly defining it’s purpose. The ebook is a technical guide to configuring WordPress, it is not a guide about making money. However, having said that, the type of sites that are being developed are designed to make money so I thought I needed to expand on that a little. I managed to chuck in a few extra affiliate links too!

Glad to see that some negative reviews didn’t stop you improving the eBook. Although I don’t personally agree with some aspects of the technical details and choices – I thought it was a good startig point for many people who want to get their WordPress blog up and running …

Awesome, Caroline!

The programmer in my head told me to write this nit-pick:
“Create a php function that reads the links at the bottom of each page. Pass the revision number of the currently opened PDF to this function. The visitor should be greeted with one of two pages: “You have the latest version” or “Download the latest version.”

The lazy guy in my head told me to write this:
“Nahhh…forget all that. Just bring the revision number ABOVE the fold.”

After listening to these two clowns, I came up with a compromise:
Put the revision number right up there with the graphic of the book. :)

Which crazy person will you listen to?

Cheers,

Mitch

I hadn’t downloaded this yet because I’m on Typepad, but a friend wants me to help her with a blog so here I am. Wow! So much easy stuff I did not know! This is a great resource, thanks so much for pulling it together.

And you know, I would have happily given you my email address in exchange for the download. :) (I know you mentioned people had been ribbing you about that so I thought I’d join them.)

Hey Caroline how’s it going.
What a great basic tutorial read, that is. There’s so much I know how to do with Wp and so I I have forgotten to do with WP. I totally for got about the page slugs thingy and setting up page in the side.
Thanks for the memory jog.
Looks good so far keep at it.
Oh and a question for you while im here, how did you set up for e-book to display the menu with the pages on the left hand side like that. I’ve got a free book how to get your blog indexed by Google in 48 hrs Im giving away on my site that I’ve been trying to do that for ages and am getting no-where with it?? I’m going to be doing another on about getting double digit AdSense CTR and would really like to have it set up like that.

Cheers and beers from Canada

Hi, Caroline. I often read your blog but just now I have something I can contribute.
If you still open to e-book marketing ideas, you can read them here.
Just something I found in my email feed. Thanks

Louis

@Alex, no all feedback is useful :)

@Mitch, I really need to learn php! Yup I’ll move the revision number up higher.

@Sonia, I’m going to setup an email list next week to collect addresses for anyone that wants to stay informed about updates. But I’ll be using that as a learning experience in itself and blogging about it so may not be until later in the week.

@Shane, ahh yes that’s a great question, something I probably should have mentioned in an earlier post. To write the book I use the Outlining feature of Microsoft Word and that allows me to structure the document in that way. By using this feature it automatically inserts bookmarks at all the heading points and these are automatically imported into the PDF file with the Open Office program – very handy.
