Ebook Project Update – The Ebook is Finished!

November 18, 2007 Posted under: Making Money Online by Caroline Middlebrook

ebook project

Well almost – I have a page in the Appendix to fill in but that’s all. I have written and captured in images 26 pages of information which I hope will be quite useful. I’m quite pleased to have got it done, especially as this weekend has not been without it’s challenges. It’s always fun when your two year old decides to stick a raisin up his nose and has to be taken to A&E (aka the ER).

Musings on the Title

I’ve had lots of great title suggestions, thanks to all of these:

  • Making Sales Making Money suggested, “Niche Marketing and WordPress, My Way”
  • Kexster suggested, “How to Create a Revenue-Generating Niche Site with Wordpress”
  • Vanessa Salvia suggested, “Niche Site Success: Money-making Niche Strategy With WordPress”
  • Erica Ross-Krieger suggested, “Make Money with Wordpress Niche Sites”
  • Maki suggested, “How to Make Money with Wordpress Niche Sites”

Now I have to be a little careful here because the book is actually about setting up Wordpress, it’s not a money making guide so I don’t want people to think that I am teaching them how to make money. I do touch on a few tips in the book but it’s really all about Wordpress.

I’m currently leaning towards a slight variation on Kexster’s one:

“How to Develop Money-Making Niche Sites with Wordpress”

I like the ‘how to’, I want to keep the ‘niche sites’ and I want to mention money but not have it be about money if that makes sense!

Next Steps

I’ve written the ebook flat out with no editing so it’s going to need some polish and I need to fiddle with the formatting. I’m not going to spend an eternity over this because I do just want to get it out there but I’ll also want to create a landing page on the blog to house the download link.

Quick FYI

I have to go away for a couple of days and I’m not sure if I’m going to have any Internet access (unlikely) so I have scheduled a couple of pre-written blog posts for the next couple of days but I am unlikely to be around to respond to comments. Hopefully I’ll be back online in a day or two.

I’ve been using BANS – their site might help with selecting a title for your book – buildanichestore.com. Count me as one of those that want a copy. When and where can it be purchased?

Congrats on your first ebook. I have one about 99% complete myself. Make sure you send a review copy to a few people who are knowledgeable in that area so you can get some honest testimonials for the squeeze page.

Hope the raisin found it’s way out. Our 9 month old son isn’t to that stage yet thank god :)

That’s great. Can’t wait!

Sorry, I couldn’t suggest the title earlier, but better late than never: Creating WordPress Niche Sites: How To Turn WordPress Into a Money Making Machine

This is a powerful title that not only appeals to people’s desire of making money online, but also conveys the purpose of the ebook effectively.

Also, books with a title and a subtitle fare a lot better than those with a boring title alone.

Please let me know it’s release. I am very anxious to have you hold the light to this WordPress usage. Also congratulations on the ebook accomplishment.

Congratulations. Wishing you every possible success.

One piece of (gratuitous?) advice – get someone else to read it as a proof-reader. I have found that whatever I do I just can’t proofread my own stuff. Unless someone else reads it I invariably find embarassing mistakes (their and there are my own particular weakness).

Congratulations on completing your book Caroline! That’s a big accomplishment – and I’m sure the next one will be even easier!

@Serge, you won’t have to, it’s free :)

@Robert, I’ll release it here on the blog, probably later this week when I’ve polished it up a bit.

@Innovations, I do mention a few reasons why I like and use Wordpress but the book isn’t designed to convert people from one platform to another – simply to help people who have already decided to use Wordpress. I’m sure other platforms could be setup to do the same thing, but that’s not where my expertise lies.

@Evan, yeah I am so bad with typos. Unfortunately by usual proofreader is unavailable at the moment. I’ll invite people to contact me privately for a draft copy before I publish it – good idea.

@Caroline, My wife was the book editor for Popmatters.com mayhaps we could get a copy to help with proofing. :-]

Little piece of advice – if it’s not about making money, don’t put money in the title. There’s a lot of people who want help with WordPress, and who’ll immediately be turned off by the word money.

Sell it as what it is – an ebook on how to do stuff with WordPress. Otherwise people will feel cheated; those who bought it for the money-making stuff won’t get it, and those who bought it for the WordPress stuff won’t buy it in the first place.

@Shane, slapped wrist for me, thank heavens for “replace-all” !

@Pete, well it’s tricky – the book is not about making money per se but it is about setting up the site for maximum revenue so it is relevant. I’m not too worried about people feeling heated becuse it is a free book and I’ll also have a landing page where I describe what its about in more detail and I’ll do the same at the beginning of the book so if somebody did pick it up thinking it was a monet making book they wouldn’t need to read past the first page so be set straight.
