Ebook Project: First Round of Edits Done, Book Re-Released
Thank you to everybody who sent in all the great feedback from the initial release of my WordPress ebook on Friday. It’s amazing just how many mistakes I managed to cram into 35 pages! I also took on board all of the suggestions and incorporated about 99% of them.
The book has expanded slightly to 39 pages now as I have added an Acknowledgments page where I have named everybody whose advice I acted upon, a new chapter with some final thoughts and added little bits here and there.
The download link has not changed so just re-download it if you have a copy that was downloaded before this post went live.
From tomorrow, I start marketing it!
Oh also, I made my first sale from one of the affiliate links in the book earlier this evening, so it’s off to a great start :-)

Hi Caroline,
Small point.
On page 8 the page split means the heading is split from the paragraph.
And how come my wordpress didn’t come with a Who Is Caroline Middlebrook button ;-)
All the very best.

BTW
IMHO I suggest NOT installing ones blog in the root of your domain. This was also mentioned by Gogole’s Matt Cutts.
Personally I think it is bad practice and I regret the 1 occasion I did this. There’s also an SEO advantage!
It allows scope for changes and adding more tracking, etc.. and adding other features (such as moodle, a shop, etc.) and means YOU can decide what the landing page is.
Also with many scripts requiring 777 and 755 chmod, I think it is better practice to keep it away from your quota and htpass files.
I also had a major problem with password protecting folders also in the root with the blog there.

Don’t worry about this Caroline, people make mistakes :)

Sorry to do this peace meal :-(
On page 9 you should probably blank out your database name for security (the bit before the underscore anyway)
Also on themes, I think it worth mentioning that not all themes are WIDGET enabled.
Personally I could not live without widgets ;-)
It’s so easy to add any advert using a widget, including your own adsense keyword triggered emporium.

Caroline,
Congratulations on the eBook! I look forward to reading it. ;)
@Peter, thanks for all the suggestions, I’ve incorportated them into the latest version.
Ahh snap – sort of -well a different approach but I am happy to discover that you like the Prosense theme too. I tend to not add videos – they are slow for people on poor connections, but I try to ad photos – they go with my usual topics anyway I also use categories to sort my posts/pages. I hadn’t realised that by going all pages I could get rid of dates totally nice!
Congrats on getting the ebook out! And thanks for keeping us up to date with all the steps you’re doing for it – it’s such great information to see (and hopefully, learn) from your experience!
Should have been: to see (and hopefully, learn from) your experiences!
Grrrr… stupid writing too quickly! :-)
Caroline this ebook couldn’t be more timely for me. I’m in the early stages of creating blogs for myself and my clients, and, the subjects that you so clearly write about are precisely what I need to know.
Thanks for your help,
Dennis Foreman
