In this video I show you how to create your content. I discuss the debate over the choice of using pages or posts and I give some (very) basic SEO information showing you how to edit page slugs for your posts.

I also show you how to setup your permalinks and in case you can’t see it in the video, the format to use is /%postname%/

Caroline – the link at the top of the page (“Click here to access the full series.”) leads to a 404…

I appreciate your thoughts on pages -vs- posts. You make a strong point.

    Hi Caroline
As a user of WP for awhile I have to admit the first 6 videos were a rehash of what I’ve already known. BUT, now we are getting into the stuff I have been waiting for.

  • For starters, it’s very useful information.

Again, you come up with very useful video showing everything that needs to be done.

My mistake, I thought this was blog related. Still it was an informative video and I did enjoy it all the same. it’s always good to get a different perspective.

  • @Dan, yeah doing a ‘from scratch’ series such as this will unfortunately have to start from the basics that most people know but everybody is at a different place in terms of their knowledge.

  • Best to be VERY careful when choosing a host provider.

just discovered your video series. They are awesome, I downloaded your PDF Wordpress e-book late last year or early this year, and it was extremely helpful in getting up and running with Wordpress, I now have about 8 blogs. First I did free WP, then got a self hosted account. So thanks for the ebook, and thanks even more for the vids – I can go back and revisit and relearn, with your dulcid english accent guiding me (Makes a change from the american ones) kind regards

Interesting Caroline that your adsense income for December 08 was only $9+?

How many of these niches are you working on?

Great to see you are over the $1000 mark overall.

In my experience posts get ranked way quicker and higher than pages. Your reason for using pages is “If someday in the future?” Sorry it appears your reason is for ease of programing when the rule should be what gets more traffic.

    Caroline:

Just been going through your videos, as I’m still a WP “newbie”. I think you’ve done a great job in explaining the ‘little important things” that most folks tend to either overlook or forget about.

I’m in the process of D/L’ing your “bloggers bible” and look forward to learning a few things!

    Again, great job!

PS: The “%” symbol which you said in another video ’slipped your mind” is the “percent” sign… :-)

  • Albina says:

    Hi Caroline,

I have followed all your advice in building a Niche Adsense Optimized site and have succeeded (I am very new to WP).

The only problem I have come across is: I have changed the permalink structure to /%postname%/ and it doesn’t seem to be working. I get “page not found”. But when I change back to default permalink, its all ok again. Please advise.

    Thanks in advance,

    Albina
