Developing Money Making Niche Sites With WordPress 2.6: Video #1 – Introduction

July 30, 2008 Posted under: Make Money Blogging by Caroline Middlebrook

wordpress ebookIntroduction to the Video Series

This is part #1 of a series of 10 videos. Click here to access the full series. The PDF download of the original ebook is also still available.

I wrote the PDF version of this ebook back in November and since then I have updated it many times but once WordPress 2.5 came out the book became impossible to update – a re-write was necessary.

It’s somewhat cumbersome to demonstrate how to build a website using just text and pictures and so I have decided to re-do the book as a series of videos which should be much easier to learn from. I’ll also include some notes along side the videos with relevant links and so on.

In this first video I introduce the video series, and discuss what I will be covering and what I won’t be covering. I also explain what my definition of a ‘niche site’ is.

Nice one Caroline!

Looking forward to following your video tutorials!

I accept what you’re not going to do … marketing, SEO etc. but never say never …. all that material could be part of your next video series!

@Paddy, I’m only ever going to ‘teach’ (I don’t like that word) people what I have experience and ’success’ (don’t like that word either) with. I know plenty about setting up WP sites but I don’t know about SEO and all that stuff. I wanted to be clear about what was covered in this video series because many people who read my ebook were disappointed about what wasn’t covered so to those people, if that’s what they’re looking for, they know not to bother watching the rest.

Great Work Caroline! I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.
I liked the ebook you released and have referred my students and online colleagues to it as it explains things so well. (I even learned a thing or two)
Keep up the good work

Exciting news Caroline, I actually hadn’t checked out the ebook version of this so all of it will be new. Oddly enough I was tempted to do this with all of sites a week or so back yet didn’t fully understand how, so this is just in time!

Caroline — very cool approach.

I am curious about your web cam. What did you buy, and are you happy with it? (Maybe I missed this information — if so, sorry).

WordPress 2.6 has a lot of security issues. I ain’t very confident when making money making niche sites. I would probably recommend just using version 2 .5 if I were you until you know that all of the bugs are out of it.

@Ultimate — Interesting that you say that. Recent WP updates have been very focused on security improvements, including WP2.6. (http://blogsecurity.net/wordpress/wordpress-26-security-improvements/)

So, what security issues are you referring to and what security problems are you thinking are unique to “money making sites”? Wordpress is not typically used to handle financial transactions.

@Mark, it’s a little Logitech thingy and it can either sit on my laptop or on a desk. I don’t really know much about laptops so I just plumped for one priced in the middle and well rated! And yes I am happy with it :-)

@Ultimate, well I’ll just let the WordPress guys worry about that. As a software developer I can say with confidence that the only software without bugs is vaporware!

Caroline, I think it is great that you have taken up using video. I do enjoy reading books but video are just that much easier. I’ve been wanting to do video my self but haven’t gotten around to do it yet.

Just a note of thanks in advance. I am off to view all the videos and have downloaded your E-Book to study from.

I love your style of teaching, I have done your “Traffic Rush” course and have watched all the videos within that course itself. I am amazed at how much information you have shared, and at the value of it!

Again Caroline.. Thank you so much!

@Caroline – I was just a casual blogger! I actually dont know what area I will specialize in. But now on seeing this video series, i feel that if I identify my niche, then I could actually earn some money! This video series has given me the confidence!

@Sathis, actually niche selection is one area that I don’t touch in these videos at all – they just give you the technical know-how to install and setup WordPress.

After reading the above comments and your responces, it surprises me that you have not marketed more fully your “niche” your Ebooks.

Hello Caroline!

I have only just now discovered you [via Yaro Starak] but I am very impressed with your attitude! I also very much dislike the words ‘teach’ and ’success.’ I am pleased to discover that I am not the only one who understands that these words are best avoided by people with integrity. [Am I making a big assumption here? I do not believe so.]

My internet work is just starting but one of the things I will be very strongly about is the importance of understanding words and their effects and what we can discover about ourselves and others by monitoring the words we use.

Presently I am having challenges with technical aspects of setting up Wordpress. [Until very recently I was intending to write articles for a static site.] And I am particularly interested in setting up static sites with Wordpress but don’t yet understand how to do it so I am very interested in watching your videos [I have as yet watched only the introduction video] they may be just what I need! Do you cover setting up sites with a combination of static and weblog pages? This is my main interest at this time.

Thankyou Caroline,
Very refreshing to discover you1
Wayne.

@Wayne, words are a tricky thing. We need to use them to communicate and yet they are very personal. For example, one piece of wisdom often offered is that success lies in service to others but I don’t like the word service because for me it conjures up images of slaves serving a master. Still, there’s not a lot we can do about that unless we learn how to communicate telepathically!

And yes my book shows you exactly how to setup a static website using WordPress so I hope it answers your questions.
