Caroline’s Favourite Links & Blogs #5

November 4, 2007 Posted under: Making Money Online by Caroline Middlebrook

It’s been two weeks since I posted my last links post as last weekend was the start of my Twitter Guide posting schedule and I didn’t want to overwhelm you by posting too much.

Blogs That I Like

Just one this week, and that is…

Vandelay Designs

I’m really getting into Social Media as a form of networking and traffic driving and so I am increasingly finding myself drawn towards great posts at Vandelay Design. As you might gather from the name they are a company specialising in site design and they do Wordpress themes too.

However, what I’m really interested in is their blog. For example, a recent post SEO v SMO really helped clarify some things for me with regards to search engine v social media for traffic. Another post asks whether or not you have a plan for social media?

Cool Links Around the Blogosphere

[1] It’s Not How Much You Make, It’s How Much You Give - John Chow brands himself as the ‘evil’ dot com mogul but posts like this show another side to him that is a lot less mercenary than his usual image would have you believe. He speaks some real truths here.

[2] Cracking the Secret Affiliate Combination For Any Market - This is a solid, hands-on post that shows exactly what Derek Beau does when he wants to ensure success in a new market.

[3] 110+ Resources for Creative Minds - A very impressive resource from Skellie for finding inspiration and some creativity. To be honest, this was too large for me to consume but if I need ideas, I know where I’d go to look!

[4] Facebook Flyers Pro Taking Off - I am a real fan of how-to articles that really show people how something is done rather than just waffling around the edges of a topic. This post from Jonathan Mendez shows exactly how to get started with the new Facebook Flyers.

[5] The World of Affiliate Espionage - Uber Affiliate really opened my eyes with this post about how to spy on your affiliate competitors. This is one of those posts where I think, I wouldn’t do this stuff myself, but it’s good to know what’s possible!

[6] 29 Things You Can Do To Make a Blog More Communal - This post from Collis of North x East (which has recently been sold) contains lots of juicy ideas of building a community around your website. I need to implement more of these myself.

[7] ShoeMoney’s Top 10 Worst Ideas to Make Money - A very funny post by Shoemoney where he reveals 10 of his business ideas that flopped badly. My favourite has to be gas station that gave out free gas (very slowly) with paintball guns shooting at the people getting their gas! :-)

[8] What the Customer Actually Wanted (Funny Pic) - If you have any background in marketing or software development you’ll find this highly amusing. If not, you’ll probably just think that it’s a weird cartoon!

Some Shameless Self Promotion

A few days ago I posted my stats for October and out the blue, everybody seemed to be talking about it. A rather bizarre reaction to a stats post but the links that have resulted are quite interesting if you are me, and maybe just slightly interesting if you’re not!

Yaro Starak wrote Proof that Blog Commenting Still Works to Build Traffic

Darren Rowse wrote The Power of Commenting on Blogs

Steven Aitchison interviewed me after hearing about me from Yaro.

All very nice publicity, thanks guys :-) After reading the comments left on some of these posts I’m going to have difficulty getting my head out the door! I really do appreciate all the support that I am receiving and I hope I can start to live up to the hype, knuckle down to work and make some income!

@Shama, no problem :)

@Ginger, thank you very much! Social media is really doing well for me - I think I need to track and analyse it a bit more closely so that I can post about it here.

@Todd, that’s cool - I do try to link out to as many different blogs as possible to give people a varied mix of stuff.

@Neena, Thanks a lot, knowing that I can inspire others really inspires ME (and scares me a little bit too lol!)
