Caroline’s Favourite Links & Blogs #4

October 20, 2007 Posted under: Miscellaneous by Caroline Middlebrook

I have now resigned myself to the fact that I will probably never clear my blog backlog! I still add new blogs to my feed every week but I did unsubscribe from a couple this week too. I guess it’s always in motion, which is quite nice as there is always fresh stuff to read.

Blogs That I Like

Entrepreneur’s Journey

I’m not entirely sure how I found out about Yaro Starak but his blog about Internet business has been in my feed reader since I first started using RSS. His personal story resonates with me. He has a background in business, took his business endeavours to the Internet, got started in blogging and now he not only has a highly successful blog but he also runs the Blog Mastermind membership site.

I like Yaro’s style - he is a completely sincere individual. There are no sneaky tactics (at least not that I can see) and he provides an overwhelming amount of genuinely useful information on his blog. Just look through his articles section - there is masses of great stuff in here. Yaro seems like a great guy and I’d like to meet him some day.

Skelliewag

I have only just discovered Skelliewag and I was hooked right away. I first heard of Skellie when I saw her guest posting on ProBlogger. At the time, I remembered the name but didn’t click :-) Then I found her blog through a post on Sphinn and that’s what got me reading. Skellie’s blog is very slick, the writing is eloquent and obviously lovingly crafted. Every post delivers immense value - there is absolutely no fluff here.

She is currently writing a series about growing your blog which I find very interesting. Apparently I should be guest posting on other blogs, hmmm. She also has a talent for writing about viral marketing with flagship posts such as 37 viral post ideas you can use today.

Cool Links Around the Blogosphere

By the way I just thought I’d point out that these links aren’t in any kind of ranking order - they’re just ordered as I found them during the week.

[1] How to Optimize Your E-Commerce Site for Top Search Engine Rakings - This is an example of the great quality of articles that Yaro Starak puts out. This post is not for solo people who are just trying to make money with a single blog/site. However I like reading stuff like this because it gives me ideas for the future.

[2] Make Money Online With Google Custom Search - This is a creative post from Daily Moolah that explains what Google custom search is, and how various people have put together useful applications that harness the power of it. An inspiring read for anyone with web development skills up their sleeve.

[3] 10 Steps to a 7 Figure Income From Your Site - Who could resist a headline like that? This post is from Scott Wainner of WRevenue.com. It’s not the kind of 7 steps that you can just implement overnight and get rich, but rather, guidelines for goals you might want to set yourself over the coming months in order to maximise your chances of generating a larger income.

[4] Escaping the Search Engine Pipe Dream - Looks like Courtney Tuttle had a lightbulb moment when he realised that he probably wasn’t going to make his millions via search engine traffic! A very honest and enlightening post that presents some hard facts about search engine rankings & traffic and what it means to your income.

[5] SMX New York Roundup - SMX was the new Social Media Expo held recently in New York. There has been lots of posts around the blogosphere and it can get messy trying to track it all. Lyndon Antcliff has put together a cool roundup post that is definitely one to bookmark if you have any interest at all in social media.

[6] Who Doesn’t Love Deagan Spam? Or, Delete to Avoid a Google Penalty - The title is a bit of a mouthful but this is an essential read for any blogger who sees odd looking trackbacks come in. Lucia of BigBucksBlogger shows that these trackbacks are in fact spam and explains how this can lead to a Google penalty for YOUR blog if you don’t delete them.

[7] 7 Mistakes That Bloggers Do When Building Links - BloggingMix first shows us the usual ways that bloggers go about link building which is a nice recap and then goes on to explain some of the ways in which it can go wrong.

[8] What if Google Had to Design Their User Interface for Google? - This one is just a bit of fun but I found it amusing. Just go watch it and smile :-)
