Bum Marketing Update – Lots of Work in Progress
My Bum Marketing project is going very well and I’ve managed to discipline myself to work on the boring stuff as well as the cool stuff! Here’s where I am at right now:
19 Articles Written
I started with a single article which I re-wrote four times and then mashed up manually using the article mashup method I have blogged about to stretch that to 16 articles.
I have now started on my second topic. I have written three source articles and I want to write one more before mashing that one up. I’ll be using my new ArticleMasher tool to do that.
ArticleMasher Tool Development Underway
I have about 80% of the development done. Here is a screenshot:
I want to put in some automated tests before I use it properly and then I’ll test it out for real using my second batch of articles that I mentioned above. I have managed to resist the temptation to start setting up the ArticleMasher website as I really want to wait until the tool is finished, working & tested before I do that.
Niche Website
I have done quite a bit of work on the niche website I am creating for this project. I’m using Wordpress to manage it and so far I have installed a theme and some essential plugins, and written 4 static pages of content. As I am using Adsense to monetize this particular site (at least to start with), I picked a Wordpress theme designed especially for Adsense – ProSense, by DoshDosh. It was a breeze to setup.
I’ve also decided that to give the site a bit more value over the longer term I’m going to add a blog to it. I wont post the kind of in-depth articles to that blog that I do here – it will be more of a news reporting blog for stuff that is happening in that niche. It’s a busy niche so it should be easy to knock out some quick blog posts every day or so.
Next Steps
The next thing to do is finish the tool and test it with my second batch of articles. After that I’ll have around 30-40 articles to submit but before I can do that I need the niche website in a ready state. So, I’m going to start the blog and perhaps add a few backdated entries and try to get at least 5 solid articles on there before I submit these articles.

Caroline, thanks for the inside peek as well as the link to the adsense template!
BTW, can you tell me the plugin that lets readers subscribe to comment replies (the little checkbox at the bottom of the comment screen?) Thanks!
@Suzanne, Sure it’s this one:

Hey caroline, I just found your web site and I am loving some of these articles. Very helpful to me. What kind of plugins have you installed for this niche website?
@Josh, that’s a good question – if you don’t mind, I’ll answer that as part of my next update as I think other followers of the project may find it interesting.
Hi Caroline,
I was refered to your blog today and want to thank for all the posts you made. I also listeded to your podcast and I must say you have a wonderful voice to listen to.
I don’t want to put you off track or anything but I see a lot of potential for you to become a software engineer. Like the software you made, you could easily sell it, or give it away free. You can build a whole empire of software products.
I’m sure you run into a lot of ideas, like this one here, in the future to make some great tools.
Wish all the best.
Victor
