What I Learned from the Thirty Day Challenge

10 CommentsPosted under: Personal by Caroline Middlebrook

I have just finished listening to the Day 31 podcast. Ed had a little quiver in his voice and I feel a bit sad too. Seriously, how weird is that?? The Thirty Day Challenge was just a course on Internet Marketing so why would I be sad that it’s over? That’s just silly!

Making a Case Study of the Play Dough Niche

In yesterday’s post I put together a fairly detailed analysis of the first few days traffic for the two niches I had worked with in the Thirty Day Challenge. I’ve decided to make a bit of a case study of the play dough niche because:

  • The keyword research showed potential so I feel I can do more there
  • I have quite a few content ideas still to explore
  • I have only created two web properties so far, lots of room to experiment
  • In the day 29 training Ed highlighted several mistakes I had made with this niche

Traffic, Conversions & Sales – Crunching the Numbers

As part of the Thirty Day Challenge, we are learning a process that allows us to very quickly rank fairly well in Google for a chosen keyword (or phrase), direct some of that traffic to an affiliate product and hopefully make our first $10. Based on my early keyword research I thought I would be raking in the traffic (and hence the $$$) but it has not happened, so I want to find out why. Time for some number crunching.

Action vs Results Based Goals

In earlier posts I talked about my dreams and goals in terms of wanting to develop software and needing to pay the bills. I think of a goal as being something precise, that can be measured and perhaps has a deadline attached to it. For example, “have a monthly income of $xxx by xxx date”. On the other hand a dream is less precise, doesn’t necessarily have a date, such as being free to spend my time writing games.

The Thirty Day Challenge and How it Affected my Decision to Quit my Job

I had never heard of the Thirty Day Challenge until I read about it on a blog at the end of July. This is understandable as it is a yearly event running during a month in the summer and 2007 has been it’s 3rd year so for the previous two years I was busy with University.
