101 Ideas for “How To” Internet Marketing Blog Posts

November 7, 2008 Posted under: Blogging by Caroline Middlebrook

Whilst trawling through my web stats at the weekend I noticed that I have a large amount of traffic coming to my site from keyword phrases of the “how to” variety. I have already written on a handful of these topics (which is how I’m getting the traffic in the first place) but many of them are phrases that ask a specific question on a topic I have only covered loosely so there is a lot of potential here.

These are real searches and they are already generating traffic so any one of them could be written out into a SEO’d proper blog post to drive even more traffic. If I had the time and the inclination then I’d do it myself but I have neither so here they are, enjoy! I expect to see you guys outranking me for these terms soon!

Hi Caroline,

Top list, it’s these phrases that draw visitors by the bucket load, as well as using phrases like these for your post titles it’s also a good idea to include the same phrases in your opening post paragraph. Thanks’ again for the tips

Hi Caroline,
I have been following you for quite some time now and I am amazed for the amount of info products that you create and give away without cashing in on the money making opportunity these products could have created for you.
I wish I have at least one third of the creativity you have to create good quality products so I can make some money online and quit my J.O.B.
Congratulations for your new e-book and keep up with the good work!!

What a wonderful list! Some are niche or domain worthy by themselves.

This goes to show something I have been saying, there is room in MMO for those who would cater to the newbies, bringing them along. Seems everyone wants to compete to be the next Shoemoney or John Chow, forgetting there is more ground available at the base of the mountain than at the top.

Hi Caroline,

This is gold, thanks! Will be posting some how-to’s soon. Follow the comment love!

Like the Bloggers Bible pitch in the end of the post much better than the box. I think it could be even more effective since you are picking interested readers (they’ve read through the post). And it doesn’t have the “negative charge” pop-ups carry.

Cheers,
Alex

Thank you Caroline,
Every time I visit your blog I am whacked up along side the head with the way you look at internet marketing. This list is absolutely amazing as a source for understanding how people search on the web. One of my problems is understanding how people search and what they are really looking for. This gives me a lot to think about.
I got the shadow box again when I visited the blog which is fine and I found that if I click on HOME on your dashboard I can enter the page since I can’t figure out how to close the shadow.
Thanks for the information and I am really enjoying Traffic Rush-you are a great explainer.

@BusinessX, very true. Many of these subjects have been covered before but things are always changing. Many of the phrases here are being brought to my blog through articles I have written but are now out of date because the technology has changed so yes, there’s always room to write more!

@Alex, ahh yeah I put that in yesterday but that will be in addition to the lightbox :-)

@Bill, already signed up :-)

@Andy, there should be a link called ‘close’ in the bottom right hand corner of the box. I think you can also close it with the escape key.

Hi Caroline,
I am always amazed at what comes in as search terms on blogs and forums.

I am just glad you only posted the G rated ones. LOL!

Sometimes people forget that there are so many new people coming online looking for the instructions to things we may do everyday and not even think about.

I have some 1/2 done post and will look and see if they fit any of the questions in your list.
Thanks!

Looking at your stats and seeing which keywords visitors are using to find your site is a great way to find new topics to post about.

Great list, a couple of those I’ve done, this is a good reminder about adding the how-to to my posts.

You just gave away a killer keyword list…

The WordPress dashboard stats is the absolute best place for finding real keywords that ppl are actually using to find your blog/site…it takes the guess work out.

Overwhelming for a beginner but I take the words of those who are obviously more experienced that there’re a treasure trove of keywords and ideas to work on.

Thanks Caroline!

Great post. I love using this strategy for blogging. On my blogs I try to write either for news, how tos, comics, or reviews and the how to really seem to do well.

Hey thanks for this post.

Hey Caroline,

This list is a thing of beauty. I am just now trying to brainstorm more topics to blog about and I happened upon this list.

The timing is perfect.
Thanks for the ideas.
